CLA Resource Sharing Section Meeting

Friday, March 5, 2010, 10 a.m.

Middletown Library Service Center and Conference Call

Present: Steve Cauffman, Bill Sullivan, Eric Hansen

By Conference Call: Jill Adams

Steve called the meeting to order at 10:07 a.m.

  1. Conference Planning

Steve will schedule a separate meeting for conference program introducers.

Steve described the nature and content of Mary Jackson’s program about the real cost of ILL. She has an Excel spreadsheet with built-in formulas to determine costs based on salaries and filled lending and borrowing data. Steve will send copies of the spreadsheet to Section members.

For her session, Sue Berescik will demonstrate as Mary describes.

Scherelene may comment during the “Wish to Reality” program if any libraries in New Jersey are using NCIP.

  • The section's first annual meeting

The Section’s Conferences Sessions will be at 10:15-11:15 a.m., noon-1:00 p.m., and 3:30-4:30 p.m.. When to have the (5 minute) meeting? Eric recommended after the 10:15 a.m. program; at about 11:10 a.m. This was approved by consensus.

Steve will promote sessions and the Section at CLC ILL round table meetings coming up.

Steve wrote an article about the Section for the Winter 2010 CLA newsletter; it appears on page 8 and is available online now. Resource Sharing is a checkbox option on the CLA membership form.

  1. Nominations for Chair and Chair Elect

To be voted on at annual meeting in April at CLA conference. Steve will post an e-mail message to the Resource Sharing membership to invite nominations.

  1. Updates from March 4 CLA Executive Board Meeting

The CLA budget is less bleak, and the annual conference is expected to bring in some money. Membership was 803 as of last week, which is good. The Conference Committee report indicates all is ready. CLA is revising its bylaws: there may be Board term limits in the future. Barbara Bailey is working on a strategic plan for the CLA; her subcommittee has an early draft, to be posted on the CLA web site.  Steve read the draft. He will alert the Resource Sharing Section when the draft plan is online and available for comments.  CLA will sponsor a leadership conference at U. of Hartford on July 30. Maureen Sullivan will be the all-day speaker.  The CLA board will post names of scholarship winners to its web site.

Next Section meeting:  April 1, 2010 @ 10:00 a.m. in MLSC Training Lab and by conference call.

The meeting adjourned at 10:31 a.m.
