  • Monday, May 2, 2011 and Tuesday, May 3, 2011: CLA Annual Conference. The Resource Sharing Section is sponsoring 4 sessions all taking place on Monday, May 2:
    • Monday, May 2, 2011, 11 a.m.
      Title: So really, how much does ILL cost in Connecticut? Results of the ILL cost study
      Description: A followup to a session presented at last year's conference, Mary Jackson will discuss the results of the ILL cost study done in Connecticut and the ramifications of the results. Mary will also review the use of the data collection spreadsheet, which is freely available online for any library to use to calculate their ILL costs.

      Title: ILL and Reserve Copyrights and Wrongs
      Description: Come to this panel discussion and learn how to apply good copyright practices to your ILL and Reserve operations. Join Nancy Romanello, UCONN-Stamford, Blanche Parker, Darien Library, and Jeff Down, Judicial Branch Law Library in Middletown, and learn about copyright with respect to ILL lending and borrowing and in terms of material which would be going on Reserve. You will also learn about online tools you can use that will help you determine if an item is in copyright.

      Title: Paper-less ILL  
      Description: While a completely paperless ILL office may be a goal, removing even some paperwork will streamline your ILL operation. Hear how colleagues Kim Farrington, Central Connecticut State University, Barbara Hall, Booth and Dimock Memorial Library, and Judy Haggarty, Guilford Free Library, have made their ILL offices use less paper.

      Title: I Heard It Through the Grapevine: Keeping Current in ILL
      Description: Do you feel behind in keeping up with ILL developments? Are you having a difficult time keeping your ILL skills current? Join Steve Cauffman, Connecticut State Library, who will offer suggestions on strategies for keeping current and who will show you Websites to watch for ILL news.

    • What Does Interlibrary Loan Really Cost? / Monday, April 19; 10:15 am - 11:15 am; Wampanoag Room

      Description: Join Mary Jackson, Auto-Graphics Resource Sharing Product Manager, as she discusses the results of the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) cost studies she coordinated while she was the Director of Collections and Access Programs for the Association of Research Libraries (ARL). Mary will talk about the methodology used in the studies and will explain the worksheets libraries used to determine their ILL costs. Attend this session and you will receive copies of the detailed cost worksheets so that you can go back to your library and figure out the costs of your library's ILL operation.

    • Signed, Sealed, Delivered: Physical Delivery of Library Material  / Monday, April 19; noon - 1 pm; Oneida Room

      Description: Join Scherelene Schatz, JerseyCat and JerseyClicks Project Manager for the New Jersey State Library, who will talk about the Delivery Committee of the Rethinking Resource Sharing initiative. Scherelene will also discuss new programs in which libraries in southern New Jersey are experimenting with delivery of library material directly to patrons.

    • From Wish to Reality: Interoperability and Interlibrary Loan  / Monday, April 19; 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm; Nipmuc Room

      Description: Mary Jackson, Resource Sharing Product Manager for Auto-Graphics, will provide an overview of how Interlibrary Loan (ILL) systems interoperate with circulation systems using the NISO Circulation Interchange Protocol (NCIP). Sue Berescik, Director of the East Hampton Public Library, will demonstrate their implementation of NCIP that resulted in up to 54% savings in ILL staff time because the standard eliminates the need for a staff member to update two systems.
